Random Tuesday Thoughts

Can someone please explain to me the benefits of daylight savings time? When I head to work in the morning, it’s now brighter; however my drive home is now shrouded in darkness. Great, now I feel like I’ve worked an hour extra of overtime, without pay. *sigh*

I’m technology challenged and apparently lazy too. I can’t figure out how to change the clock in my car, so for the next 5 months, I’ll have to remember to subtract 1 hour and add 3 minutes to the time indicated. Previous to this daylight savings time thingy, I only had to remember to add the 3 minutes. One would think, I could just read the manual and figure it out, but hence the lazy part… God, I’m so confused.

Now that the colder, darker weather has arrived, I’ve lost interest in salads and exercising. This is a recipe for disaster on its own, but to top things off, my only food interests of late are based solely on the food groups of carbohydrates and gravy. If I had to guess, I’d say it’s hereditary and has something to do with some scientific unexplained genetic hibernation traits of northern dwelling land-based mammals. Keep in mind, I’m not a scientist, so who the hell actually knows what my problem is.

I’ve also lost interest in shaving my legs on a daily basis. This one – I’ll outwardly blame on my fear of purchasing razor blades from Wal-Mart, but truthfully I suspect it also has something to do with the cold, dark weather and some deep-seeded method of self-preservation in winter climates. I know! *ewww*

I’ve been thinking about taking a *ahem* “sick” day for the sake of it, but with all this talk of swine flu and H1N1, I’m worried that karma will bite me in the ass and with my luck, karma will actually have the swine flu.

As always, please stop by and visit The Un Mom for a lot more chaos and Tuesday Randomness.

I hate daylight savings time. Two reasons: 1) I like driving to work when it's dark out. It's quiet and peaceful and I don't have to look at other drivers (6:30am), and B) My daughter hasn't quite adjusted well despite my best efforts and wakes up at 6, which means the last 30 minutes of my used-to-be-quiet morning is interrupted. I love my daughter, but I like the quiet in the morning better.

I think I was a farmer in a past life. When it gets light, I wake up. When it gets dark, I go to bed.

This getting dark at 6:00 is going to kill my social life.

Those are Winter symptoms. To tell you the truth, I don't like it too. It's depressive. Specially when at four the sun is already setting. I can't wait for the Spring.

I think that the whole point of DST is so that the workable daylight hours fall more between 7 and 5 and also, it benefits the kiddies so that it is not so dark for the trip to school!

Did I mention that I like a woman who doesn't shave all the time! LOL!

It takes me forever to get use to the clock change.

Have a great RTT!

@Joshua - First, thanks for visiting my blog and feel free to stop by often.

Second, I agree - I LOVE peace and quiet in the morning and that is too the reason why I love driving to work. Damn DST...

@Brian - No worries, I will shave them in time for holidays. Right now, I'd wear garlic and not shave my legs, if it keeps the swine flu away.

@f8hasit - LOL! I might have been a lazy farmer. I don't like getting up until way after the sun has come up, but I do go to bed early and right now, it feels like 6:00 should also be my bedtime.

@Sylvia - Ahhh - Spring. How many more days?

@Otin - LOL! Can you explain the allure of not shaving to my husband? Some men just aren't as understanding as you, but one can only dream...

Thank you for stopping by my little slice of the world; I'd respond there, but since my work computer won't let me view inline comments, I can't; trying to fix that so it opens a comments page or pops open a new window. We'll see.

I'll be stopping by as often as I can as I've added you to my following list.

@Harriet - I have such a hard time with the time change as well. I spent all day on Sunday being miserable because I felt like I needed a nap.

yeah, I don't feel much like salads this time of the year either.. :o( I've actually had to toss a few ingredients out because I left them in the fridge too long to go bad...

I found your blog on F8hasit. Enjoyed and completely related to your humourous (note the Cdn. spelling from a fellow Cdn.) comments on our tendency toward hibernation. I don't make salads in the winter - too cold. I just make a lot of soup. They say Vit.D and citrus are good things to take against the swine flu.
Stop by my new blog if you like.
All the best today!

The only point I can see in it is Guy Faulks night November 5th its almost dark enough when the kids get home from school to light the bonfire. that way they get to bed at the right time,
they also do it in Egypt the only reason I can see for it here is so the tourists are not confused having to get up at 6.00 to get swindled out of money.

I was in Guatemala the first year they observed daylight savings (just three-and-a-half years ago). You would have thought that turning the clocks forward an hour (it was spring), had turned the universe inside out. Everyone talked about the time change for two weeks straight, claiming they didn't know when to eat, sleep, shit, whatever.

I don't like DST either, such a pain in the ass. Really you're just re-wiring your whole sleep schedule and I'm already behind on that! Hope that you had a good day!
Loved your blog, got directions here from f8hasit - I am also from Ontario Canada and hate those dark nights driving home. Your right, make for comfort food and warm jammies. Looking forward to reading more...drop by and visit me sometime...

I force myself to wear at least one skirt a week. It keeps my grooming habits in check.
