Technology - A Double Edged Sword...

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE technology - when it’s not inconveniencing or annoying me. It has simplified many tasks in my daily routine, but at the same time – it has added so many complications. I like how I can check my e-mail from anywhere, receive text messages from family and friends, update my website remotely, check weather, find directions – all while being on the move, but at the same time, I dislike all of those things. I’m a slave to technology and not proud of it. I dislike how I’m expected to respond immediately to e-mails and text messages. No matter where we are, we can be found, we can be hounded and we can be pestered. I like the “good ole days” – when you left the house, no one could find you find you until you wanted to be found. No one knew where you were going or where you had been.  Life was simple... Just because we have the technology to annoy instantaneously, doesn’t mean it should be used that way. Those who need to get a hold of m...

Random Tuesday Thoughts...$#*! You Won't Care About, but I'm Going to Tell You Anyway...

Guess What?  It's that time again - a time to randomize your thoughts and confirm to the world how crazy you actually are.  Now, you can thank The Un Mom for hosting this loonie extravanganza... I burnt the roof of my mouth and tongue yesterday and it is still numb and fuzzy today.   That’s what I get for letting myself become famished and then scarfing down my lunch fresh out of the microwave. I’ve had a kink in my neck and shoulder for the last month that I cannot get rid of.   I’ve been going to the chiropractor once a week since it started and have spent a small fortune in Icy Hot Neck Patches and Robaxacet but it’s just not going away.   Grrr… Only 4 more days (including today) that I will be working at my current job and 3 out of the 4 days, I’m being treated to lunch by co-workers and my boss.    Now, I just need to find someone to take me to lunch today… J and I leave for Samana, Dominican Republic on Monday....

Anti-Social Much?

I've mention before that I work in a technology company.  We make stuff that makes the internet work better  (at least that's the gist of what our marketing material says).   Anyhow, as you can imagine our organization is dependent upon technology, gizmos and gadgets and since we are so cutting edge, the company recently had "smart boards" installed in all our meeting rooms.  These smart boards apparently "allow for better collaboration and idea sharing".   What are they?  Well, to me - they are  the very expensive version of  the old fashioned white board with the smelly markers.   But, with these ones - when you write on them (with fancy markers), and your notes can then be shared with others in remote locations.   What does this mean?  It means I NEVER have to sit in a boardroom and listen to another boring technical presentation ever again.  I love technology...and the anti-socialist mov...

Excuse Me While I Ramble...

T oday is my son’s 17 th birthday. As he is on a boat somewhere along the Alaskan coast and a phone call is not feasible, I’ve tried to send him a text message and cannot figure out the damn alphabet on the phone pad – all I’ve been able to come up with is “Hisspy Bistry”. Perhaps a new phone with a complete keypad or an iPhone would solve my texting challenges. On my drive into work this morning, I had to pass no fewer than 9 cars, a dump truck and a school bus. I had assumed that they must have thought it was Sunday given they were out for a leisurely drive in the country. Where is summer? If you’ve seen it, I would appreciate it if you would send it my way. A generous reward is being offered for its safe return to my backyard. Canadian summers are short enough and without it, I’m becoming suspect of my mental stability. I just grabbed a juice box from the refrigerator here at work (one of our perks) and I quite possibly look like the biggest moron on the ...
