Say Hello to My Furry Friend...

Image
I met him in my garden yesterday.  I don't know what type of caterpillar he/she is and honestly, I don't really care.  I just know that one day, he will turn into a beautiful butterfly...or an ugly moth.  Either way, I can relate.

Weekend Recap...yes, I realize it's Wednesday...

Image
Here we are…it’s Wednesday again and I’m just now getting around to a weekend recap. I know it’s old news now, but it was a busy gardening weekend.  Between Friday and Saturday, we hauled 5 truckloads of mulch and then proceeded to shovel it into our gardens on Sunday.  It was a lot of work upfront, but believe me – it cuts down on the weeding work later on.  Here’s a few photos of our back gardens.  Never mind the shirtless man in photo 3 – that’s J (reading while he waters the garden). Next weekend – the deck finally gets finished.  We are adding lattice to the unfinished portion around the bottom to enclose the mass of weeds that grown under there. After the lattice is completed, it will be my turn to stain the entire upper and lower deck.   This will probably take a couple of weekends because there is so much of it, but it will look great when we are finished – just in time for our Rum Punch ...

Just a Photo (or Three)....

As fall is quickly approaching, I thought I would share a few photos that were taken by J in our backyard this past weekend. I love my gardens this time of year and need these photos of a reminder in order to get me through the cold, dark days of winter... Monarch & Butterfly Bush (hmmm, I wonder why it's called that?) Gardening Weekend...

Image
This weekend has been a busy one. Not only is it a long weekend in Canada (Victoria Day), but it is "unofficially" the weekend we Canadians begin our gardening season. The snow has finally melted, the ground has warmed up and the risk of nighttime frost has passed (hopefully). For the past few weeks, my husband and I have been creating a backyard oasis - new deck, new flower gardens, etc. The backyard project is the main reason my front flower gardens are in such shambles. This weekend finally marks the end of the hard work - the deck is completed, perennials have been planted and mulch has been spread. The only thing left to do is to plant a few annuals - most likely geraniums and of course my favorites, gerber daisies. This gerber daisy was photographed by my husband last year - in my very own backyard after a summer rain.
