Repost..."I Do" - Revisited

Today is the day I have been married to my husband for 21 years and the best part is –most days, we are still in love. It only seems like yesterday that we were two crazy kids…

A Few Facts from That Day back in 1989:
  • My maid of honor forgot to pick me up from the hair salon and I had to walk to her house with my headpiece and veil in place - in the rain;
  • My bridesmaid knocked herself unconscious moments before we were set to walk down the aisle. She was wasn’t watching where she was going, cut a corner and ran smack into a coat rack;
  • We had three “first dance” song(s) since we couldn’t decide on just one. They were: “Love Lift Us Up Where We Belong” by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes, “I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You” by Elvis Presley and “Thank You for Being a Friend” (the theme song from Golden Girls);
  • We also danced and sang along to “Paradise by the Dashboard Lights” by Meatloaf. It certainly was a crowd pleaser, even if it left my grandparents in shock;
  • It was the first time I had observed by grandparents dancing. That moment was something I will always remember.
There is no disputing the fact that we have both changed significantly. Some of the changes have been for the better, others - not so much.

The better - we have matured together and are secure in our relationship, we have a 17 yr old son, we both have semi-successful careers, a home, we have traveled the world together. I suspect we are more in love today than we were all those years ago or perhaps more realistically; we are just more tolerant of each other’s faults.

The not so great – we are both at least 40 lbs heavier (it’s amazing what being in a comfortable relationship can do), my husband has a lot less hair and I have a lot more wrinkles. If 20 years together has done this to us, I’d hate to imagine what we will look like in another 20 years, but at this point, we’re willing to find out...

I can't imagine being married over 20 years but am looking forward to it! I know what you mean about the weight thing but I am working on it! Hope you get to do something special!
