Monday Morning Mush...

My mind is mush today… I was off on Friday to prepare for the Rum Punch Party Version 2.0. The weekend, including the aforementioned party was fantastic – great fun, great food and great friends.  Although being the hostess, I didn’t really get to socialize much since I was too busy making sure everyone else was having a good time, had drinks and had plenty to eat.  What can I say, I’m a nurturer… If you are a long time follower, you may recall about a year ago, I received a call from an old acquaintance who inquired about me joining his legal team.  If you are a new follower, you can read about it here . Anyhow, I met with him a couple of times and then things fell by the wayside.  The opportunity was put on hold, which I wasn’t concerned because I wasn’t actively seeking anything out, so I didn’t follow up with him.  Fast forward to a year later (almost to the day)…. I get in to work this morning and ...

Repost..."I Do" - Revisited

Today is the day I have been married to my husband for 21 years and the best part is –most days, we are still in love. It only seems like yesterday that we were two crazy kids… A Few Facts from That Day back in 1989: My maid of honor forgot to pick me up from the hair salon and I had to walk to her house with my headpiece and veil in place - in the rain; My bridesmaid knocked herself unconscious moments before we were set to walk down the aisle. She was wasn’t watching where she was going, cut a corner and ran smack into a coat rack; We had three “first dance” song(s) since we couldn’t decide on just one. They were: “Love Lift Us Up Where We Belong” by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes, “I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You” by Elvis Presley and “Thank You for Being a Friend” (the theme song from Golden Girls); We also danced and sang along to “Paradise by the Dashboard Lights” by Meatloaf. It certainly was a crowd pleaser, even if it left my grandparents in ...

Lying Low, Keeping Quiet, Hearing Lots...

Have you ever noticed how some days everyone in your vicinity is either moody or outright bitchy?   Well, so far this entire week has been like that for me.   I’m fortunate that my job does not require a lot of interaction with others around me because frankly I can’t stand drama and at the moment, I’m living in a freaking soap opera. I can’t stand pettiness, gossip or backstabbing, but I’m noticing it’s occurring more frequently than it has in the past – a lot more.    I think my cubicle is equipped with a cloaking device because people are oblivious to my presence.  They stand right outside my cubicle entrance and proceed to spill their guts, badmouth their bosses or bitch non-stop about their co-workers, company policies, etc., etc.  It’s like I don’t even exist, which in itself can be quite entertaining, but what makes my blood boil are the ones that purposely scheme and take pleasure in maki...

Random Tuesday Thoughts...Movies, Ducks and Alcohol

Image
Sorry for my absence from the blogging world as of late.  I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but I just haven’t been “feeling” it.  I can barely focus and certainly haven’t been able to string any form of intelligent thought together, which could possibly pass as a post - random thoughts don't count.  Rest assured, I’m still stalking you daily and reading what you have to say.  Hopefully things will get turned around soon… On Friday night, The Boy and I took J out for an early Father’s Day dinner and movie.  Somehow going to a movie on Friday night is a lot more fun than going to a movie on a Sunday.  I don’t know why, but it is… The movie?  Karate Kid.  I remember the 1984 version well and I have to say that the latest release is WAY better than the original – thank God.  I was worried when J picked it and was trying to come up with excuses as to why it should really be a male bonding ex...

I O U...

I was listening to a Sunday morning “oldies” radio show a few weeks ago (yes, I love the oldies and no, I’m not THAT old).   I listened closely to the lyrics, as it was a song I’d never heard before and by the end I was in all choked up and close to tears.  Sappy I know.   Turns out the song was by Jimmy Dean.  The same Jimmy Dean that became a sausage entrepreneur (www.jimmydean.com) and who died on Sunday at the age of 81.  Too bad his most famous song was “Big Bad John”.  Anyhow, read the lyrics closely and you’ll understand what I mean.   I would hope that I’ve left my son with thoughts just like these… I OU, Mom                                   ~ by Jimmy Dean ~    "You know most people look th...

Under The Weather...

I’m feeling kind of sickly today.  I can’t pinpoint exactly what’s wrong with me, but I know I’d feel better if I was at home in bed.  My head hurts, my stomach hurts and every joint in my body aches.  If I were to actually believe WebMD, I have all of the symptoms of Lyme disease, but seeing how I haven’t been traipsing about in the bushes, I doubt I’ve come in contact with deer ticks. My ill feelings could have been caused by having to get up a couple of hours early and come into work at the crack of stupid.  Can you believe that I didn’t have any work all last week, but then my boss decides on Friday afternoon that I need to show up bright and early on Monday to get an agreement done before 10:00 a.m.?  It’s a good thing he had a large Starbucks sitting on my desk when I got here.   I was wired this morning, but now - I need a nap…and some Tylenol…

Underwater Happy Place...

Image
As I slog away reviewing another wretched contract, my mind begins to wander to a better place. First, I start to think about lunch and how it can’t come soon enough and then I’ve moved on to weekend events and then I think “ooh, I should probably see what my horoscope has to say” and then once I’m on the entertainment page, I’m obligated to check the daily comics and then current events – it’s quite a vicious cycle. Needless to say, I’m easily distracted when I’m bored, which has happened a lot lately. Not that the legal department is an overly entertaining place on the best of days, but today I seriously feel like a poke in the eye with a stick would be more entertainment than what I’m currently experiencing. My happy place is one of magic and mystery and just the thought of it brings me peace and a certain sense of calm. No, it’s not Dairy Queen. Let me rephrase that – at least it’s not DQ today. I haven’t had an opportunity to visit this pla...

Random Tuesday Thoughts - Rum, Delivery Guys, Oceans, OCD

Image
As it is Tuesday, The Un Mom is hosting her random party.  Go see her and you’ll understand where random originated. The plans for my Rum Punch Party (Version 2.0) are going very well.  So far, I’ve managed to talk my friend into making me a cake (scuba themed) and my mother-in-law into preparing the roast beef (for BBQ beef on a bun).   A couple of friends are bringing salads.  My BF that can’t cook is bringing deviled eggs, which should be interesting – about 3 years ago she called me and asked me how to boil eggs (true story).   So far, I have 18 confirmed guests.   If you’re looking for something to do on the 26 th , I’m looking for someone to bring some appetizers… We had a new refrigerator delivered on Saturday.  Our “old” one in the basement stopped working and since we cannot possibly live throughout the summer with sub-par warm beer, we were left with no other choice. ...

Random Tuesday Thoughts...A Giveaway, Random Drug Testing, Retired People

Image
I had to attend the “lab” again this morning to provide yet another urine sample.  Either the Dr.’s office keeps ordering the wrong tests or my urine is in high demand on the black market.  Either way…eewww. As I’ve mentioned before - the lab opens at 8:00, but by 7:45 there is a huge crowd gathering around the door waiting for them to open up.  When the doors open, you are to take a number.  The way it is supposed to work is the person that arrived first, gets the first number; second person gets the second number, and so on and so on.  However, the senior citizens have an obvious sense of entitlement and tend to jump the line – there is even pushing by them.   I respect my elders, but this really bugs me because the only place they NEED to be in the morning after the lab is the local coffee shop or hair salon.  Urghhh… My cube dwelling neighbor is on speaker phone again.  I feel an overwhelmi...
