Monday Morning Mush...
My mind is mush today…
I was off on Friday to prepare for the Rum Punch Party
Version 2.0.
The weekend, including the aforementioned party was
fantastic – great fun, great food and great friends. Although being the hostess, I didn’t really
get to socialize much since I was too busy making sure everyone else was having
a good time, had drinks and had plenty to eat.
What can I say, I’m a nurturer…
If you are a long time follower, you may recall about a year
ago, I received a call from an old acquaintance who inquired about me joining
his legal team. If you are a new
follower, you can read about it here.
Anyhow, I met with him a couple of times and then things
fell by the wayside. The opportunity was
put on hold, which I wasn’t concerned because I wasn’t actively seeking
anything out, so I didn’t follow up with him.
Fast forward to a year later (almost to the day)…. I get in to work this morning and check my voicemails and what do I have? As message from him telling me that “they’ve
finally resolved their outstanding issues and he wanted to know if I was still
interested in the position”. Hmmmm…
I should still be interested, but I don’t know if I am. The pros are still the same; the cons are
still the same. I am still bored out of
my mind here, but in the same respect – the idea of change is scaring me this
time around. My brain has been dormant
for so long, that I am afraid that I will fail miserably with new responsibilities.
Am I still smart? I would like to think so, but on a Monday
morning, I’m not so sure…

I aint big on change either but I would do it if I wernt happy.
Good Luck
@Brian - Yeah, my thoughts exactly. He took a year, I certainly can take a couple of days...
A few days thinking should help.
You did weigh the pros and cons well and it does sound like a tough choice. I agree that money talks - they can't offer you less obviously but what if they do offer you more? I understand the dress up thing although I think my office tends more towards business casual. But I dress up nice every day and you get used to it.
I think overall you really have to listen to your heart. Don't not go for it just because you are afraid of change. At the same time, if the change is too much to handle right now, don't do it - you have to be happy in the end.
I believe you could make the best of any situation and it sounds like the potential new job would be better overall than the one you are in now. I think time is money so the commute would be a huge deal for me even if I had to dress up every day.
Good luck with your decision - I wish you the best and much happiness and luck with whatever you do!
And thanks for the nice words on my blog! ;) Always the highlight of my day when you stop by!
My Boss: I like my current boss a lot. He is a mentor, provides respect and is guaranteed to have my back should the need arise. I know I’m replaceable – everyone is, but I would hate to see my departure as an inconvenience to him.
Really, this is a con? You can't worry about inconveniencing others. I'm sure if your boss had an opportunity elsewhere he would make the best decision for him.
Work Environment: I would be going from a cutting edge publicly traded software technology firm to a privately owned medical/pharmaceutical company. Instead of working with World of Warcraft nerds, I’d be working with Doctors and medical engineers. Hmmm – I think Doctors and medical engineers may be more socially evolved than the WOW fanatics, but not likely by much.
Its just different, and you haven't seemed very impressed by your office environment lately (cue gossiping outside your cube)
Dress Code: The new place doesn’t understand the concept of business casual – even on Fridays. I would have to “suit up” every day, which means I would have to go shopping for a new wardrobe. So much for my gasoline savings…
Meh, legit, but would you really make a decision like this based on what you could wear?
More Work: What if I have too much work? What will happen if work gets in the way of my life?
Hey, you have the time if the commute is so much shorter!
