September? How'd that Happen?

I can’t believe its September. Where did May, June, July and August go? In some aspects, time passes so quickly these days, but in others, it just simply drags on forever – like weekdays vs. weekends. Today was the first day back to school for the little ones, so my commute was littered with school buses, anxious looking children and ecstatic looking parents. By the end of next week – everyone will look miserable again. This past weekend was my friend’s 50th birthday party/zip-lining extravaganza. We had a BLAST zip-lining and I would highly recommend it if you haven’t done it before. Fun, fun, fun! If you’re not an adrenaline junky before you start – you will be by the time you’re done. The after party/picnic was also a huge success. The weather was spectacular, food was great, but then again food always tastes better when you have great company and Saturday was no exception. Yesterday was a holiday (thank goodness), so time was spent cleaning up the house since it had ...

This and That...

Well, my long weekend did not go as originally planned. Actually, all my plans pretty much went out the window the moment I threw my back out first thing on Saturday morning. Apart from turning the wrong way, I can’t explain why it happened, but it did and the rest of my weekend was spent between lying on the floor, lying on the sofa, lying in bed, crawling up the stairs and pretty much being miserable. In hindsight, although we didn’t get much done with our projects, or get to the movies or to the beach, we did get some much needed rest and caught up on some mindless television watching, so all in all, I guess it was somewhat successful. Our weather here in Canada has been fantastic – far better than it usually is this time of year. On the downside, we are already experiencing dry, drought–like conditions. Our grass has turned a beautiful shade of brown and the farmer’s fields are quickly becoming dust-bowls. I don’t want to say it, but we need rain. It can rain as much as it w...

Weekend Plans?

It’s a long weekend here in Canada – Victoria Day. In celebration of Queen Victoria’s birthday, which I don’t think is actually on the 21st of May, but who am I to complain…it’s a long weekend. I’ll take them when I can get them. My weekend plans consist of working in the garden planting some more perennials and laying down mulch, continuing to work in the spare room and of course, working on my tan since the weather is supposed to be fantastic. J and I are also planning on going to the drive-in (yes, we still have a few of them here in Canada). Our plan is to see the Avengers and whatever else might be playing. I was really hoping to see Battleship as well, but I’m not lucky enough for two blockbusters to be playing on the same drive-in screen. And if time and energy permits, we may head out for a long walk on the beach. It will be our first beachcombing outing of the year and I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of beach glass and other treasures I can find. What...

When Opportunity Knocks, Answer…"Did Ya Miss Me?”

Sorry I don’t have anything entertaining to write about these days.   What can I say?   My new co-workers are boring.   Nice people, just not the firecrackers and nut jobs I’m used to working with. I do have some news on the old job front.    Keep in mind that I left the old job at the beginning of November; however my replacement was not scheduled to start until January 3rd.   Apparently she wanted to take an extended vacation or whatever before starting. Anyhow, by January 7, she had quit.   No one knows why.    He’s an easy guy to work for, so it’s my belief that she intended to quit before she even started.   She likely got a “we’ll give you anything to stay offer” from her old place of employment. Anyhooo, being the kind person I am and not wanting to rub salt into his wounds right away, I waited until this past Monday and then I sent him an e-mail disguised “Happy New.   How are things?”    Well, to say that...

Tis The Season...The Soul Sucking Season...

The weekend has been a blur and I know I'm not alone when I say, the holiday season is sucking the life out of me and of course my wallet.  Don't get me wrong, I love the holidays - I just don't like the panic and anxiety it causes in everyone around me, because sooner or later, a little is bound to rub off. It was J's birthday this weekend, so yesterday we set off to celebrate by going to a movie and then dinner and then because I had too much wine with dinner, I decided to get in some last minute Christmas shopping.  Yes, I went to the mall!  It's be years since I've been to the mall this close to Christmas and now I know why - the people. I don't know how to explain it, but last night I found the mall to be the most depressing place on earth - the looks of panic on people's faces, the picked over shelves, the screaming children (and parents), the rudeness of people trying to find parking spots, everything about it was horrible.  I went wi...

Weekend Re-Cap...

I wish I had something fresh and exciting to report, but sadly I don’t, so instead a weekend re-cap. The weekend was nice, but is never long enough for my liking.   I find this time of year, the to-do list is always longer than there is time in a day.     On Saturday, J and I went for a long walk on the beach.   It was perfect time and place to take in the fall colors.   As you can expect from Canada in October, we had the beach to ourselves.     It was enjoyable – the sunshine, the fresh air and the best part - I didn’t get any sand between my toes (thanks to my rubber boots). The Bible says that Sunday is supposed to be the day of rest, but thanks to my dilly-dallying on Saturday, I had to do house and yard work on Sunday.    The bathrooms were scrubbed, the floors were mopped and laundry was done.     With The Boy off at school, I’ve had to pick up the slack and am sharing the lawn cutting duti...

A Repost..."Life's A Beach, If You Can Manage to Keep Sand Out of Your Crack..."

This is a re-post from last summer.  Since I haven't had time to be creative, I'm recycling.  Rest Assured, it still applies... I’ve been thinking about going to the beach this weekend. Ahhh the beach – warm sun, warm water, fresh air and sand…lots and lots of sand. If it weren’t for the sand, the beach could almost replace Walt Disney World as the happiest place on earth; however the sand that encompasses the shoreline of the lakes, oceans and rivers and makes up the thing known as the “Beach” is unbearable to me. I strongly dislike sand. I particularly dislike the feeling of dried-on sand between my toes. You know what I mean – after you’ve been swimming and need to walk across the sand to your beach towel (Water + Sand = Crusty Toes). Ughhh… When I was much lighter younger, I was successfully able to charm my then boyfriend (now husband) into sweeping me off of my feet and carrying to my awaiting throne beach towel without so much as a grain of s...

Underwater Happy Place...

Image
As I slog away reviewing another wretched contract, my mind begins to wander to a better place. First, I start to think about lunch and how it can’t come soon enough and then I’ve moved on to weekend events and then I think “ooh, I should probably see what my horoscope has to say” and then once I’m on the entertainment page, I’m obligated to check the daily comics and then current events – it’s quite a vicious cycle. Needless to say, I’m easily distracted when I’m bored, which has happened a lot lately. Not that the legal department is an overly entertaining place on the best of days, but today I seriously feel like a poke in the eye with a stick would be more entertainment than what I’m currently experiencing. My happy place is one of magic and mystery and just the thought of it brings me peace and a certain sense of calm. No, it’s not Dairy Queen. Let me rephrase that – at least it’s not DQ today. I haven’t had an opportunity to visit this pla...

The Weekend is Here....

Image
It’s a long weekend in Canada. The technical name of the holiday is Victoria Day, which is in celebrated in honor of Queen Victoria’s birthday…I think. I’m not a diehard Canadian, so my perception of actual facts might be slightly skewed.  Anyhow, for the less refined, you can refer to it as May 2-4 (as in a case of beer – 24 bottles or cans). Pay attention - this is a fact you should file away for that day when Trivial Pursuit once again becomes a craze.  May 24th is the unofficial start to summer here in Canada – cottagers head “up north” to open up their cottages for the season, boaters take to the Great Lakes, gardeners believe the risk of frost has passed start planting their gardens, campers will schlep their camping gear and pitch their tents for first camping excursion of the season and with all that - beer season officially arrives.  Now, before you get concerned for my well being, rest assured that beer season never actually ends in Canada, ...

Can You Guess What I'll Be Doing Tonight?

And then, I'll be dreaming about this... Oh and I should mention - this is my Mother's Day present from my son.  I'll most likely be the one paying, but I guess it's the thought that counts...

Observations from the Sex Show...

I’m an adventurous, open-minded person and I’m certainly not a prude when it comes to topics of a sexual nature, so with my open-mind and without any pre-conceived notions, I attended the “Everything To Do With Sex Show” this past weekend. There were many “different” exhibitors, both respectable and some not so much – you could purchase everything from satin sheet sets, clothing, shoes, lotions, bondage paraphernalia, remote control toys and jewelry. It was one-stop shopping for those “naughty” ones on your Christmas list… Here are some of my observations from the show: The show had a mascot. I think it was meant to be a giant sized sperm, but it looked more like a squished marshmallow. He wandered around the show handing out condoms. I respectfully declined his offer for a “freebie”. There were a number of Fabio look-a-likes / wanna-a-bees trying to sell their wares. One in particular made custom t-shirts and wore one that said “Let me be your plumber”. Hi...

Where Did the Weekend Go?

Image
Monday morning has once again bitched-slapped me in the face and kicked me in the knee-cap. One would think I would be prepared for this weekly assault, but I’m sad to say no. It sneaks up on me every damn time and I before I know it, the weekend has passed me by and I don’t have anything to show for it. Two days aren’t enough time for me. If I just had one more day at home – life would be swell. Saturdays are spent cleaning, doing laundry and the worst task on the planet – grocery shopping and if I’m lucky some time with friends or date night. Sundays are then spent on the outside chores – gardening and lawn cutting, unless it’s the winter months and then they are spent indoors on household projects. Of course, Sundays is also a day set aside for a big supper (pot roast or roast chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy), so needless to say, a big portion of my day is spent preparing and/or cleaning up from these suppers. Oh and I can’t forget my nap time. Naps are what ...
