Random Thoughts…The Still Freezing My A$$ Off (Rant) Edition

Image
We are still experiencing cold, cold and more, cold.   I know – I live in Canada, what else can I expect?   Well, I expect temperatures that will not cause me frostbite to my extremities that are not covered up and that exposed longer than 5 minutes to the elements (aka my eyeballs).   We’ve been under some Polar Vortex (WTF) for the last month.   Enough already.   I not only have to deal with the cold, but there is also the blowing snow and wind chill warnings on a daily basis.   It would be nice to have a day of normal driving conditions where my commute only takes an hour instead of the hour and a half of late.     To make matters even sweller (yes, I know it’s not a word), our heat here at work only works occasionally – usually NOT on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.     I’m sure its toasty warm in here on the weekend, but I don’t plan on testing that theory out.   I took a sick day ...

Winter Wonderland...

Image
Well, as with most of the Eastern coast, we are in the middle of an "snow event".   All schools in southwestern Ontario have been closed today - a child's dream day! I made the choice to stay home today instead of battling the elements to make my way into work.  Probably a wise decision considering the forecast is calling for it to get worse throughout the day. Here is the view from my house this morning.  View from the front of my house looking toward to road. View from the back of my house looking toward our ravine. View from the back from my house looking to the east of our property. It's days like today when I get to stay in the comfort of my home when I don't actually mind winter so much.

It Was Snowing This Morning...

That's all I have to say about that!

Snowmageddon....

It’s Day 2 of Snowmageddon.    No, I’m not being dramatic – it’s a FACT.   Mother Nature is blessing us with a Winter Wonderland, but I’m still left wondering what’s so fantastic about snow, cold weather, whiteouts and ridiculous drivers. By the end of day yesterday, we had received a whopping 80 cm or approximately 31 inches of snow.   Today, we are expecting another 50 cm or an additional 19 inches of snow.   The end of the world is coming. Yesterday, I donned my toque (remember last year's lesson on Canadian clothing), mittens and boots and ventured forth to work.   Only to be told, we were closing early. Today, I ventured forth again.   Upon arriving to work, I find there were less people there today than there were yesterday and most of the ones that didn’t show up actually live within the city.   Once again, we were told we were closing early.   My boss was su...

Half a Snow Day is Better Than No Snow Day...

I never thought I'd say it, but I love me a good snow storm.  Let me add a caveat - I love a good snow day when I can actually stay at home. I headed out to work this morning in a snow storm - the first big one for my area of Southwestern Ontario.  I'm pretty fearless when it comes to driving in the snow, so it has to be pretty awful for me to contemplate not going to work (unless of course, I just need a day to myself).  However since I just started the new job, calling in due to the weather was not an option. Keep in mind that I commute from the "country" to the "city", which typically takes approximately 45 minutes.  Today it took me an hour and a half and when I arrived, the parking lot wasn't plowed, nor were the sidewalks cleaned.  I trudged through snow drifts that were past my knees to get into the building (which wasn't that big of a deal considering I'm only 5'2").  Don't judge - it still took some effort. Anyh...

My Happy Place...

It's snowing here in my part of Canada today.  Actually it's flurrying.  Regardless what you call it - it sucks.  So with that being said, I'm going to my happy place...

Dear Mother Nature....

How have you been doing?  It’s been a while since we’ve been in touch and I note that you’ve been ignoring my Friend Request on Facebook; so one can only assumed that you are pissed at me.  What could I have possibly done to make you so spiteful to my needs?  Are you still angry at me for calling you a bitch?  You should not take that one personally - I call everyone a bitch.  You should actually consider it a term of endearment.  *smiles* In the interest of our ongoing friendship, may I suggest a truce?  Here’s what I propose – I won’t slander you or your work for the remainder of the month, if you just do me one solid favor.    What’s the favor you may ask?  Well, I’m sort of in need of a “mental health day”, but because I don’t want to use any of my sick days because I like to save those for when I’m not actually sick (you know to screw around for the day in the warmer months) and ...

What Fresh Hell is This?

Oh wait, why am I surprised? I shouldn't be considering I live at the North Pole... Here is a simulated view of what our parking lot at work looks like at the moment - if I actually had a camera...

Seriously?? What Was He Thinking???

Image
I was feeling pretty good after my “Fall” post of yesterday and was slowly coming to terms with the cold reality that after Fall comes the shitiest time of year Winter. According to my calendar, I should have approximately another 6 more weeks of semi-tolerable weather. I was feeling fine…until… While enjoying my morning coffee, my jackass lovely husband had taken it upon himself to stomp on my fantasy of everlasting warmth and informs me that he has made an appointment for my snow tires to be put on my car in last week of October. While I applaud his forward-thinking nature, WTH was he thinking? You would think that he has learned that I will not tolerate that kind of trash-talk in my household. And then, since he’s on a roll, he decides that perhaps we should make a trip to Home Depot tonight and purchase this: Cub Cadet 28" Snow Thrower (Photo Courtesy of Home Depot) His explanation: “We should get one early. Remember last year, they sol...
