Random Thoughts - Catch Up Edition...

June is upon us, but the weather is still cooler than normal.   Maybe global warming does have something to do with it, or maybe it’s just because I live in Canada and Mother Nature hates me. I’m still faithfully plugging away at my jewelry making, shows and online sales, but I have to say I’m getting slightly tired of it.   Lately, I’ve experienced a few shows that have left me wondering why I bother.     I’m not planning on giving it up any time soon, but I think I need to re-evaluate what makes me happy to make and not just make what people will buy.   Because in all honesty, people are picky and you can’t please them all.   I’d rather please myself. Let’s talk about food.   Do you ever get in a food rut and get tired of making and eating the same thing every week?   I’m in a food rut right now.   I like to try new recipes, but my family can be “selective”.   I can typically please either The Boy or J, but not usually both tog...

Cccccold....

Today, it's a balmy minus 20 celsius  (aka minus 4 Fahrenheit). Mama always said - if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.  Well, that's all I have to say about that. By the way - Happy New Year!

Catch-Up Post...How You Doin?

I can’t believe we are already in the last week of July.   Eeeks!   Summer is passing me by.   How has that happened?   Where did it go and how can I get it back?   Seriously, I’m freaking out about this one.   The weather has been on a “cool” side and not in a “wow that’s awesome” kind of cool.   More like cold, put on socks kinda cold…brrr…   This summer has been a summer of “procedures”, with visits to Drs., Dentists and Specialists.    First, I had a filling, then a root canal, then another filling to fix the crown where the hole was made from the root canal.   Then there were miscellaneous Doctor’s appointments, blood tests or as I like to call them “tune-ups”.   Then, I had a biopsy on a spot that I’ve had above my left eyebrow for at least a year and that hasn’t seemed to heal and just last Friday, a follow-up appointment for the results.   Turns out, I have basal-cell carcinoma – a form of skin cance...

It Was Snowing This Morning...

Random Thoughts – Retirement, Yogurt and Weather Woes…

Turns out the pain I’ve been experiencing is actually a tooth infection, which when cleared up will lead to either a root canal or extraction. Extraction would be the cheaper route, but not likely the one I will choose, as it’s the very back molar on my lower right side. Without that tooth, I seriously doubt my ability to chew anything other than pudding. Regardless of the route I choose, it can’t be done before I go away, so I’m on some antibiotics and some regular pain meds. The dentist won’t guarantee that nothing will go wrong given my insistence on scuba diving, but he is hopeful that my “tooth won’t explode while on holidays”. He’s a glass half empty sort of guy…. I’ve been continuing to research the move to Ecuador and want to go now. I don’t want to wait 5 years, but moving sooner isn’t feasible since there is too much work to be done on our house in order to maximize our return on investment. I know patience is a virtue, but honestly, I don’t even know what that means… ...

September Recap to Date...

The weather this past weekend (yes, I realize that was almost a week ago) was not nice – at all.   It was either raining or when it wasn’t raining, it was so cold that pants and a long-sleeved shirt were required.     With the arrival of colder weather, cold and flu season has also arrived.   There are two people in the vicinity of my office that are sick.   I cannot stand the sound of someone sniffling and not blowing their nose.   “Gross” is all I have to say about that…   My father-in-law held a yard sale this past weekend (in between when it wasn’t raining).   I swear that man could sell air conditioners to Eskimos.   We had taken him a small amount of “junk” that had been lying around our basement for years to sell on our behalf and he conveniently made us a nice $400.   Have I said how much I love than man?   I love him even more since he didn’t ask for a commission.   My new found wealthy feeling...

Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot...

The weather for this week has been hot and humid.   The temperatures have been in the range of 95 to 104 with the humidity.    I AM NOT complaining – I did enough of that from November to May.   Instead, I’m embracing it.     We haven’t even turned on our air conditioning.   As long as the nights are cooler, I don’t need A/C.   I only need to know it’s there for when I do need it.   We have ceiling fans throughout our house, we have plenty of cold beverages in the refrigerator and ice in the freezer.   This is the way life’s forecast is supposed to be – sunny, hot with a chance of cold beverages in the evening…

Observations from Today…

Since Thursday of last week, the girl in the office next to mine has been complaining to everyone that the ringer on her phone is too loud and that she can’t turn it down any further.  Honestly, I can’t hear it ring, so I don’t know what she is complaining about.   I guess some people just need to fuss over the most miniscule items. Speaking of fussing – we are expecting yet another snow storm tomorrow.  Apparently Mother Nature hasn’t forgiven me for calling her a bitch on numerous occasions and is sending another 10 inches my way.  Yeah for me! The Boy is home from school this week.  It’s “reading week”.  Funny thing, he hasn’t read anything yet.   Perhaps, it should be called “sleeping during the day week” instead. Speaking of The Boy.  He’s decided that when he’s done school, he’d like to move to a Caribbean island and live on the beach and he firmly believes, he doesn’t need a job to do that.   IF he mana...

Dear Mother Nature....

How have you been doing?  It’s been a while since we’ve been in touch and I note that you’ve been ignoring my Friend Request on Facebook; so one can only assumed that you are pissed at me.  What could I have possibly done to make you so spiteful to my needs?  Are you still angry at me for calling you a bitch?  You should not take that one personally - I call everyone a bitch.  You should actually consider it a term of endearment.  *smiles* In the interest of our ongoing friendship, may I suggest a truce?  Here’s what I propose – I won’t slander you or your work for the remainder of the month, if you just do me one solid favor.    What’s the favor you may ask?  Well, I’m sort of in need of a “mental health day”, but because I don’t want to use any of my sick days because I like to save those for when I’m not actually sick (you know to screw around for the day in the warmer months) and ...

Random Thoughts - Tacos and Bill...

I went to Jiffy Lube at lunch to have my oil changed. Jiffy Lube is meant to be one of those quick lube places, promising an oil change in 15 minutes or less. This was not to be the case today and after 20 minutes of waiting in line, I became distracted by the Taco Bell drive thru next door and left. Mmmm – Taco Bell . Why do certain parents find it perfectly acceptable to allow their 5 and 6 year old children to behave like demons in public? There is nothing worse than witnessing a 6 year old boy whining like a 2 year old girl. I’d love to give them something to whine about – both the parents and children. My son is about to start his final year of high school and the boy does not have a clue of what he is going to do with the rest of his life. In a mere 6 months, a decision should be made because he will need to start applying to colleges. It’s stressing me out just thinking about his lack of interest in the whole process. The weather is supposed to be c...
