Happy Friday - Random Thoughts...

I’m so happy it’s Friday.   I’ve been working “summer hours” for the past few weeks and it’s great – work an extra hour each day and then leave at noon on Fridays.   If only we could do that year round. Our friends booked their “one-way” flights to Panama this week.   Yes, they are retiring early!   I’m sooo excited for them – a little jealous too, but mostly excited.   I know our time will come – “patience grasshopper”. We haven’t been to the beach in a couple of weeks now – mostly thanks to bad weather and prior engagements.   I can honestly say that without those weekly excursions, my “life-balance” isn’t what is should be.   I’m not at all at peace with the world at the moment. Our annual reviews are upon us here at work and let me say, what a @#%$ waste of time.   Our raises have been predetermined months ago and no matter how stellar my performance has been, I do not have the ability to earn over and above the predete...

That's all I have to say about that!

Weekend Plans?

It’s a long weekend here in Canada – Victoria Day. In celebration of Queen Victoria’s birthday, which I don’t think is actually on the 21st of May, but who am I to complain…it’s a long weekend. I’ll take them when I can get them. My weekend plans consist of working in the garden planting some more perennials and laying down mulch, continuing to work in the spare room and of course, working on my tan since the weather is supposed to be fantastic. J and I are also planning on going to the drive-in (yes, we still have a few of them here in Canada). Our plan is to see the Avengers and whatever else might be playing. I was really hoping to see Battleship as well, but I’m not lucky enough for two blockbusters to be playing on the same drive-in screen. And if time and energy permits, we may head out for a long walk on the beach. It will be our first beachcombing outing of the year and I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of beach glass and other treasures I can find. What...

Things I Think About on a Friday Afternoon...

Is it 5:00 yet? How much longer until I can go home? It’s 3:35 and I really don’t want to start anything new. Gosh, this afternoon is dragging. I really don’t want to cook supper tonight. I’m hungry. Maybe I should get a snack. If I wander to the vending machine, I could kill about 10 minutes. I’m tired. I need a nap. I get to sleep in tomorrow. Maybe I should write a blog entry. No one reads blogs on Fridays. Still hungry. Too lazy to wander to the vending machine. Gosh, this afternoon is really dragging. Why the hell is it dragging? Is it 5:00 yet??? Ahh, hell it's only 3:37. That’s it, I’m getting a snack. Happy Friday!!

My Life is a Dilbert Comic...

On more than on occasion, I find myself relating to Dilbert.  I'm not sure whether it's the resemblance of his boss to my superiors or just the true to life mentality of our neighborhood cube-dwellers, but he resonates with me. Happy Friday!!

Drum Roll Please....

I’m happy it’s Friday!!!   What more is there to say? Well, lots: My boss is away today and while that makes me happy, this is usually the time the undesirables come out and try to get me to fast track their contract reviews.  Do they really think I plan on working today?  Stupid, misguided people… Tonight’s lotto here in Canada (Lotto Max) is estimated to be approximately $50 million, plus an additional thirty-two $1 million dollar bonus draws.  I could do so much good or evil (depending on my mood) with that kind of cash… The dipstick HR cube-dweller is on holidays today, so I can rest easy that I won’t have to listen to her talking with her mouth full of granola.   She’s 42 – one would think she’d have learned some manners by now, but apparently it’s “cool to drool” where she comes from. My company handed out “profit sharing” bonuses last week and while I’m thankful for this, by the time the ...

It's Friday - Let The Happiness Begin...

Enjoy the happiness of today because soon Monday will be upon us and I’ll be back to my cranky self. I’m happy it’s finally Friday.  This has been a painfully slow week, so it’s nice to know that in a mere 7.5 hours, the weekend will be upon me. I’m happy that my husband writes his exam tonight.  Finally, he will be able to stop complaining about the course and I can stop nagging him to turn off the television and study for it.  I’m also happy he’s not planning on taking another one until September. I’m happy that we have free muffins and yogurt at work today.  Free food always makes me happy. I’m happy that we are going to Toronto tomorrow.  We are taking our son to his college open house and then we are taking me shopping. I’m happy that I’m helping my friend instruct a scuba course on Sunday.  When scuba lessons start up again, it means Spring is finally here.   The downside – I h...
