Lying Low, Keeping Quiet, Hearing Lots...

Have you ever noticed how some days everyone in your vicinity is either moody or outright bitchy?
Well, so far this entire week has been like that for me.   I’m fortunate that my job does not require a lot of interaction with others around me because frankly I can’t stand drama and at the moment, I’m living in a freaking soap opera.
I can’t stand pettiness, gossip or backstabbing, but I’m noticing it’s occurring more frequently than it has in the past – a lot more.
I think my cubicle is equipped with a cloaking device because people are oblivious to my presence.  They stand right outside my cubicle entrance and proceed to spill their guts, badmouth their bosses or bitch non-stop about their co-workers, company policies, etc., etc.
It’s like I don’t even exist, which in itself can be quite entertaining, but what makes my blood boil are the ones that purposely scheme and take pleasure in making other’s lives hellish and unbearable.   I suspect these are the same people that were school-yard bullies – pulling on hair, pushing kids down, stealing lunch money, etc.   These same people now are managers and directors within our organization.  Shame on them.  Shame on management for being baffled by bullshit…and blinded by crap.
I admit that I get cranky and at times - spiteful.  I, however don’t go out of my way to make others miserable, unless they provoke me and then…well let’s just say, you’ve been warned.    I prefer to pick my battles and don’t fuss over the little things, but the little things are slowly growing and I’m finding myself not being able to look the other way.   There’s a storm a brewing.  Now, I just need to warn others to take shelter…

I worked at a place like that and the management not only new about it but let it fester and at times enabled it. Worse, they joked about it. It was horrible. When a new guy took over he had his hands full.

Good luck to you. It is difficult at best to deal with.
