Today is Remembrance Day in Canada or Veteran's Day in the U.S.
Today is a day to commemorate the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and of civilians in times of war. It is observed on November 11th to recall the end of World War 1 on this date in 1918.

we have armistice day in the uk and here in london the whole city is awash with poppies.
It's a holiday here in Belgium as well... but WW1 is so far away I've never given it much thought outside of my history classes and the occasional movie... that and to enjoy a 3-day weekend when it land son the right day (not this year, argh!!!)
