Pacification or Maturation?

My son was home from college this past weekend for Thanksgiving.   It was great to spend some time with him.   I know it’s only been a little over 6 weeks since he’s been gone, but I could really see how much he’s matured in such a short period of time.   He actually used a sentence like “It would be frivolous of me to ask you buy that.   I don’t need it.”   Whaaaat? He’s decided that he does not like the program that he’s in and is planning on switching in January.   He’s currently in Broadcast Television, but wants to move into Marketing.   He’s was worried that J and I would be disappointed in him wanting to switch.   J and I both told him that we won’t be disappointed in him; provided it’s want he wants to do.   We’d rather him be happy in life than to regret his choices.   The semester won’t be a total loss since two of his four courses are transferable to the new program.  I support his choice to move to ma...

Today Monday is Okay...

For a Monday, I’m feeling pretty good about life.     Don’t be me wrong, I always feel good about life – just not about Mondays. It was a busy weekend.    I attended a bead show in Toronto on Saturday.     As boring, as it sounds – it was.   Unfortunately, they are a necessary evil and are a great place to purchase different inventory that can’t be found locally, at low cost.     J was a real trooper and didn’t complain once.     I think he knew that he owed me for all of the times I trudge merrily along with him to the aquarium store and pretend to care about his fish.   Isn’t that what marriage is all about – being miserable together? After the show, we headed across town to drop off a jacket and broom to The Boy.   Yes, he actually asked us to bring him the broom and dustpan.   Apparently, dust bunnies DO bother him…who knew? We also took him to lunch, which he was extremely grat...

Sniff...Sniff...Tear...

J and I have just finished dropping our Baby Boy off at college.   He was super excited and couldn't wait for us to leave.  I know he'll be fine.  He's like J and I -  adventurous and adaptable.   I'm super excited for him, but rest assured that I will shed a tear or two when no one is around to witness it.  So until then I need to hold it together.  Anyone got duct tape?

Google Boredom....It'll Entertain You...

My Horoscope for Today... The Moon in your sign gives you an edge, even when dealing with a cold, difficult person. You could be uncomfortable with what is coming up at the workplace. You cannot count on someone like you have in the past.  My Response:   I deal with cold, difficult people everyday.  They can go @#$% themselves today, just like they did yesterday.  Boredom I've been bored out of my tree this week, so much so that I Googled "boredom".  Here are some of the things I've found: Gotta cat?  This one I have to try... I always suspected Barney was a perv... See - I told you I was bored.   Anyhow...On Sunday, we're off to drop The Boy off at college. By Sunday night, I'll be a slobbering, weeping moron.  Wish me luck. Have a great weekend everyone!

He's Still My Baby...

Today is my son’s 18 th birthday.  How the hell did that happen so quickly?  It can’t possibly be true, but sadly it is – I’ve double checked the calendar.  Eighteen years ago today, I gave birth to a 7 lbs 7 oz, 19 inch baby boy.  He’s not so little anymore, but still as adorable… Here is a brief conversation from this morning: Me:    Happy Birthday. The Boy:   Thanks. Me:    So, what are you going to do today?  The Boy:    Go back to bed. Me:     Is there anything special you are planning to do to celebrate turning 18? The Boy:   I’m going to buy a lottery ticket and a girly magazine.  Can I have 20 bucks? Me:   *snort* (as I begin to laugh hysterically).  Have fun with that. The Boy:   Yep (at this point J chimes in) J:   I suggest Playboy.  Ummm, I hear they have great ar...

Prom Night - Let the Stress Begin...

Tonight is my son’s Prom.   It’s hard to believe, but 28 years ago tonight was also my first Prom and my first date with J.   Who knew that 28 years later, I’d still be with him.  It’s shocking actually.  Why?  Well, I didn’t really like him much at the time.  He was an ass - outspoken and rude.   The only reason I agreed to go to the Prom with J was that he had a car.  Shallow I know, but it sure beat the other option of getting “dropped off” by my parents and waiting for my date to get dropped off by his.   Turns out, being a giant ass was just part of the charade to get me to notice him.   Don’t get me wrong, he’s still an ass, but on a slightly less offensive and irritating scale…most of the time… Anyhow, I will be leaving work early in order to make sure my son has dealt with the minor details of the evening.   He’s not one for the details, i.e. picking ...

The Boy:   That’s the plan. Me:   Well, I guess we are going to need to see about renting you a tuxedo. The Boy:   Why?  I thought I could just buy a suit instead. Me:   It will be cheaper to rent a tuxedo. The Boy:   This prom thing is turning into a lot of work. Me:   For who? The Boy:   Me, since you’re going to expect me to try the tuxedo on too. Prom Conversation #2 Me:   So, have you asked Stephanie to the...
